Description
I adore this one. This is a dwarf French bean and is prolific, kicks out loads of lovely purple pods which are delicious. Height is about 45 cm. I plant them in a staggered row about 30cm apart and you can sow this successionally too so that you have some always on the go. Pods will turn green when cooked but they are so sweet they’re also quite nice just eaten off the plant.
Sow seed undercover into modules/pots or sow direct from early June. To sow in modules or pots, prefill with compost, pre water and then sow seed covering with another layer of compost and water in, keep moist to aid germination. They like a bit of warmth to germinate and if they have that they should germinate in about a week or so. I have a good video on this on YouTube so take a look at how I sow mine. Once they have germinated you can pot them on to grow on until they are approx. 5 inches high with a set of true leaves. They’re ready to plant out at this stage so aim to plant at 20cm spacing and space rows approx. 30cm apart. For sowing direct outside, sow two seeds, every 20cm (thin out to the strongest seedling at each interval). Don’t forget to keep picking the beans as the more you pick the more flowers they produce.
