Kohl Rabi purple

I sow into seed trays and then prick out individually into modules or small pots to grow on. Roots don’t like too much disturbance. You can also successfully sow directly. Sow 12mm deep into well prepared soil. Sow thinly in rows. Rows should be 30cm apart. Ideal soil temp. 10-30°C. Germination takes 7-10 days. Thin seedlings as soon as first true leaves appear. Continue thinning until plants are spaced at 15cm.

Keep soil constantly moist, adding a layer of mulch can aid this. You may wish to cover the crop to prevent insect attack. To harvest pull the swollen stem bases or globes when they are larger than a golf ball but smaller than a tennis ball. Do not lift and store as the globes deteriorate quickly. Plants can be left in the ground until December so harvest as needed.
