French Bean – Anelliono Giallo

Yellow and curly!  Late Climbing French Bean. Has a round pod with an amazing curve to it. Lovely color, taste and texture.  Nickname, Shrimp Bean because of shape.  Stringless.  Good producer.  They are not fast growing nor do they produce prolifically over a long period of time but produce in vast quantity over a short period and are some of the most beautiful and sweet beans around. It is an Italian heirloom that’s actually quite rare. I’d consider them a bit of a prima donna but definitely worth the effort. They will melt in your mouth especially if you smother them in butter and salt, yummy!

Sow seed undercover May – June or direct early June. Don’t be tempted to go too early you will get much healthier plants when the weather is warmer. Sow undercover in large modules, or small pots and cover with approx 1cm compost. Keep moist. They have strong roots so give them a good size pot to germinate. For sowing direct, sow two seeds, every 30cm ( thin out to the strongest seedling at each interval). They will need a supporting frame. Final planting – May – July, after frost. Plant into final position  direct from module or post. They are to be grown up supports so plant two plants to one cane, approx 30-cm apart. The more you pick the more you get! Keep picking and the plant will produce more flowers! More flowers = more beans!
