Grow delicious home-grown peas in even the smallest of spaces with Pea ‘Tom Thumb’. This lovely dwarf variety is compact, productive and perfect for pots, troughs, raised beds and smaller vegetable gardens.
Tom Thumb is a traditional dwarf pea that produces sweet, tasty pods on neat plants, making it a great choice if you want to grow peas without needing lots of room. Its compact habit makes it especially useful for container growing and small-space gardening. A great variety for successional sowing, allowing you to enjoy fresh pea harvests over a longer season.
🌱 Growing Information
Sow into modules from March or sow direct into a prepared bed from April to June. A later sowing in late June or July can give a second harvest in September. For sowing in pots or modules, sow 3–4 seeds per small pot or module and grow on until ready to plant out. If sowing direct, sow 2–3 seeds approximately 2.5cm deep and around 12cm apart. Keep moist while germinating. Once seedlings are strong enough, plant into their final position in a sunny spot with well-drained soil. As a dwarf variety, Tom Thumb needs much less support than taller peas, though a few twiggy sticks can be helpful if needed. Keep picking regularly to encourage more pods. The more you pick, the more the plant will keep producing.
