Description
Prolific, long ‘fingerlike’ fruits.
Sow seed Feb – March. Sow undercover individually in modules, seed trays or small pots and cover with a light covering of compost. Grow with warmth provided by a heat mat, germination takes 14-21 days. Once germinated move to a position with plenty of light.
If sowing several seeds together in a seed tray, prick out when seedlings are large enough to handle into individual modules to grow on. Once seedlings have two sets true leaves move to a 3 inch pot and grow on until ready to plant out, bury the seedling up to its first leaves, water in and leave and grow on. Keep the compost moist but not wet. I like to keep my plants in a warm place or on a heat mat through this time.
Final planting from about 12 weeks after sowing , towards May – June. Plant into final position about 45cm apart either direct into soil/compost, in large pots or grow bags. They like a lot of heat so these are best in a greenhouse or poly tunnel and if they’re outside then make sure they are in sunny sheltered spot. When plant is approx 5 inches, pinch out the growing tip which will encourage the plant to bush out. May need staking as the plant gets bigger
