Also known as ‘Lions Ear’ and I adore this plant. This is a most impressive plant – it can grow up to 7ft tall if you let it. The large spheres of large flowers are a distinctive, luminous almost, shade of bright orange-scarlet – it is stunning but beware the seed pods can be super prickly. From summer to late autumn, they bear large whorls of large, distinctive tubular flowers. Easily grown from seed and resistant to mild frosts, it grows in any soil in both sunny and shady positions. It also does well when grown in a large pot. A perennial but best treated as a half-hardy annual.
